R80 turns over but won't fire.

With the sun shining I uncovered my R80 the other day, it has been sitting since the autumn.
It is usually reliable - but now I can't to get it started.
It is turning over, but not firing. I tried bump starting it too, again nothing.
The starter motor is fine, the battery has been recharged.
There is definitely fuel getting to the carbs.
I've taken one to pieces and it seems clean enough in there.
I'm out of ideas now.
What should I do next?

Ah yes. There is spark at the plugs (though seemed a little weak... maybe that's just me)
Kill switch would stop starter motor turning over wouldn't it?

Correct but it will be something silly ( dirty contacts/film of rust ) etc...as if you have a spark and fuel, then zooom !
R80...does it have points or is it electronic ? If points, clean the condensor earth ( just grasping at straws here ) but clean
up any earthing as she was running OK when you put her away Petrol could be u/s though !

Exactly. That's what is confusing me.

The air filter was slightly damp. Could that be effecting the mix?

Yes it loses it's aromatic hydrocarbons over time I would drain off as much of the old fuel including the float bowls And some fresh petrol should do the trick hopefully

^^That^^ - If you have a spark, thats where I would start - fresh fuel. Just had to do that on ALL my petrol driven gardening plant and equipment today, most of which had not been used since late autumn.

Guys, having a bit of a drama getting my G/S started up after sitting for a year. Battery's good, starter turns, fresh fuel in, new filters. There's no spark at the plugs, unless flicked on and off on the kill switch. Spent the day cleaning up the loom and connections of all the grease but to no avail. Also made up a new lead and moved the earths from behind the ignition module to the battery as it didn't look right at all wedged between plastic and paint. Any ideas as to where to go next? Will continue looking through the net but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ill try that as well. 81 GS PD with spark and turns over...Just no go. Problem is its a full tank that I will have to drain...Where do I put 30 odd liters??

Flicking the kill switch and getting a spark means the ignition module is usually good. No spark with it turning over could suggest the bean can.

Rob, I've run through all the tests in the Haynes manual with a multi meter, and yes it all points to the bean can so I've whipped that off. Looking at replacing it with this:
