Does anybody out there know if rear g/s drums can be relined:confused:,and who can do it,mine has gone way over the skimming limit! or has any one got a good one for sale! thanks rocket ;)

I'm sure this has been asked before............................. and you'd best start looking for another one :blast

And as for the price of a new one :eek :eek

Afraid I cant help you but others may be in a position to help such a worthy cause, good luck

BEMW in Derby got mine skimmed for me with wheel intact and said that they can also get the steel reamed out and a replacement inner put into your hub. Don't know who they use for the work, probably the same one Rob's highlighted and he's just stuck a mark-up on the price :blast

John at BEMW said he can do this himself but hub only - no spokes/rim as his lathe is not big enough to take the full wheel.

SRM engineering will skim your drum (with the wheel intact), reline your brake shoes with over size material and then skim to match the drum size. Cost just over £100.

I stand corrected............. and a good job too........... as I was not looking forward to the cost of having to replace the rear hub in my ST

:thumb2:thumb2 Thanks Rob

I've just had a thought - It would be worth checking with them in case the BMW wheel cannot be mounted in their lathe. Completely forgot that we were talking about the mono wheels :blast

I have been through this problem myself and it seems the steel band that forms the braking surface cannot be removed or replaced. If you look closely you will see that it is cast in and some of the aluminium hub would have to be machined away. Obviously a bad idea.
Robs suggestion is the best option or do as I did and find a better than your own wheel on ebay.de.
