Continuing my re-build...

I have a little electrical problem, and was wondering if the brains trust here could help.

I have put the electrics back together to the best of my ability, and have lights, horn, indicators etc.....
but NO go with the starter on pushing the start button.
I do get a click from the relay, (so believe I have power to the starter button) and have got the neutral light illuminating after replacing the neutral switch under the gearbox.
I there a sidestand cut-off switch?

Just wondering where to look at next.

Any helpful suggestions greatly received.

my old st had no sidestand switch - get a bulb and wire and make sure yer have power at the starter motor connection (or with a Multi-meter) if yer have power - check all yer earths. best of luck

battery is new, and fully charged.

Will have another go at it tomorrow...

FIXED !

Yeehaaa......

I have managed to track down the problem; bad connection from the wee black wire onto the starter motor solenoid.
Taken apart, cleaned with contact cleaner and emery paper, and FIXED.

I am chuffed, as I am a numpty with electrics, but refreshing this R80ST is increasing my knowledge of all things electrical/mechanical.
Now I just need to cut a plug off the wiring loom, solder some new connections to fit the Acewell speedo/tacho and she's finished (apart from waiting for Chris to complete my paintwork.... which WILL be excellent, as all his work is)
oh, and the new brake calliper (Pretech) and line (Venhill.... must pop over there and get it made up).

Then MOT, and shes back on the road after 4-5 years.

Ride safe y'all

Yay!

Despite having worked as an electrician (albeit many years since) and being qualified as an Electrical Engineer, I'm still ridiculously happy when I manage to make a broken vehicle do sparking/turning/lighting up in the correct places. Fault finding can be really rewarding:thumb2

Im glad Im not the only one that is happy when I get something right when it comes to the bike.....
Im no mechanic, and certainly no auto electrician.... but I am learning, and find it occasionally frustrating, but also hugely rewarding when it goes right.

Ride safe
