R850r GEarbox

Ok so Blanc on here, mate of mine who has my old 1996 r850r is wondering can he swop/change a gearbox out from other years/models as his own one is slipping out of gear under hard accl.

inital taught is a r1100r or r850r box be ideal.

i take it a gs or 1150 boxes may bolt on but have would not match up to the older final drive?

1150 boxes won't fit because they're a different casting and the subframe mountings (and other bits) are different. I believe that any 1100 or 850 box would work as the gearing is dropped by the final drive. However I'm not sure if the internal ratio's are also different - Steptoe would be able to confirm this.

The gear skipping issue isn't uncommon with pre-97 boxes when they wear. They can be rebuilt - Steptoe or Steve Scriminger are your men for this.

i would happily rebuild it, just he is more into replacing it and on he goes.

if he does that then i would like to take old one and strip it down. i do enjoy my time is the garage must say

dont knwo where he got the 1150 fitting from just relaying on his request. kinda taught 1150 wouldnt fit but he was adimant it would

i thin there is lad breaking an 1100gs here in Cork so might send him on the details to check price
