Rad guard and warranty

All this talk of rad guards. How many of you go places where they are actually needed? Road riding - deffo no. Off road - nope. Struggling here. Cannot see why you need them. A lot of hot air !

Don't fit them then. You could apply the same theory to insurance. How many times have you needed that?

My dealer re fitted mine when it went in with crash damage

2 years ago I was on a trip in Morocco (on a Triumph Tiger...sorry) had a stone puncture the radiator I was stranded for almost a whole day waiting for recovery then grounded for 3 days whilst a replacement was sent .

Lesson learnt , I have rad guards on my GS.

Before it happened I always thought...it will never happen. It did and spoilt the trip.

I have needed insurance all of the time. Without it the Odd Lot are likely to get over excited with their ANPR gizmo thingummybob :thumb Renders that butter in the fridge rather superfluous I should add :D

Disagree !!

when i had an issue with overheating on an 1150 years ago, i worked out the area of rad covered by the guard fitted and it was something like 30% IIRC. didn't make a blind bit of difference to the temperature of the coolant though, the problem was something else

No coolant in an 1150! Air and oil only. Your guard was in front of the oil cooler and if it really covered 30% of the area it would make a difference. Manufacturers work out how much radiator (or oil cooler) area is required to cope with any conditions the vehicle is likely to encounter. Reducing that by 30% does not sound like a good idea

er yeah. my mistake :blast

oil which strictly speaking was the coolant on that model, but my point about the area covered is still relevant i think. the guards are quite similar.

bloody hell

Bloody hell. I make rad protectors and have done for a long number of years and have never had any problems. i`ve had a lot of lads ask me if it`s a problem and I`ve always answered `no`

I`ve had rad protectors for years and it`s always been fine and i`m sure that it`s the same for the TT ones and the W/Lich ones.

As I`ve already seen posted - you have a temp gauge - use it :bounce1

Well flies and general crap get into the radiator on a daily basis, thus reducing the efficiency of the radiator, are BMW going to count the amount of ingested flies, calculate their effect on the cooling system and then penalise
us accordingly should we have an associated warranty claim, I doubt it very much.
cheers
