My '53 1150GS, (twin spark of course), now has 55,000+ miles on the clock. Always has big service done at MCW Glasgow but I do the small ones myself and although with EM last weekend I'm 1,000 miles late I'm sure that the oil won't be the problem. No other engine work done to date apart form two coil sticks replaced.

Ticks over perfectly at 1,000 revs and goes like the clappers, yeh I know "for an 1150", but just off tickover its got a bit ragged, fluffing, surging and difficult to control for smooth low speed filtering and town work. Fuel consumption also seems to be up a bit but part of that will be a correction because I fitted a non-standard speedo drive to make the indicated speed a bit more accurate. I always used to get 50mpg+ but now rarely see better than 45mpg and that isn't all down to the speedo drive which was only a change of about 3.7%.

Where do I look first? (And no, the showroom for a 1200 isn't an option:D ) Wear in the throttle bodies perhaps? Lamba sensor telling lies?

Sounds like a coilpack breaking down again :augie

Completely different from when the coilpacks failed previously although of course this doesn't mean you are wrong.
