It feels like I'm gonna brake the key every time I remove the tankcap, anyone know of a cheap alternative tankcap? No need for it to be lockable.

Not cheap but TT offer an alternative cap which operates without a key.

lubricate

take the cap apart and put a bit of lubricant on the moving parts.
that keeps it ok for a good while.

Get some WD40 and spray a lot of it in the hole where you'd normally put the key.... If this advice is dubious im sure someone will tell me quite soon....

+ another 1 :)

after the ryedale mine was full of mud and muck, took the cap off, wd40 (other brands are available :aidan) sprayed into the keyslot for about 10 minutes until the oil pouring out was clean, been fine since:thumb2

I'm not sure thats the problem as my cap was seized solid when I got the bike and I found it damaged internally once I managed to remove it.

Anyway, I bougt a new one from BMW as you can't buy the bits separately and this is just as bad when fitted to the bike and I feel the key is going to snap each time i use it.........:nenau

grease

WD-40 is OK for moisture displacement, imo not so good for long term oiling purposes.
I used vaseline on the disassebled parts.
Press the top of the green cap down, and you can removed the pin and take the lock apart.
There is a small o-ring inside the fixed barrel housing, which gets rubbed to bits (in my case)
