Has anyone used either of these RAM parts:

U-Bolt Base, up to 1" OD with 1" ball RAM-B-231

or

Double U-Bolt Base with 1" Ball RAM-B-235

www.ram-mount.co.uk

I've used RAMs contact form to ask them which is more appropriate but haven't had a reply (and can't find a phone number for them).

It's to mount a Zumo 550 (TT lockable mount) on the screen rail of the GSA. I'll be using all the RAM bits supplied by Garmin except the handlebar clamp. I don't want to use the handlebar clamp because I have found that the Zumo waves about too much when mounted on the screen rail. But I do want the Zumo a bit closer to me than if it was bolted straight to the rail. I don't want much, do I?

TIA

Richard

Why not use RAM-B-231Z :nenau

Onto screen support rail (oval shaped) onto LHS of clock, remove screen if you've fat fingers, it helps to remove screen first otherwise when you drop the nyloc nut its darn difficult to find and attach with RAP-319 black shim inside 1" u-bolt, the cast bracket has inverted V so aligns onto oval rail.

If you trawl thru GPS info forum you'll find examples of it done, but depends where on the 12GSA you intend to fit. I must have answered many times in here.

Also RAM-B-367 onto Yoke clamp bracket ?

Unless you're name is; S D Ball then no request for info/assistance has been received .

Thanks.

What I was trying to determine is whether the Double U bolt fixing (RAM-B-235) is more stable than the Single U bolt fixing (RAM-B-231).

The 231 is for a max 1" shaft wheras the 231-Z is for a max 1.25" shaft. The screen rail on the GSA is 0.6" IIRC

The Yoke mount is interesting but I fear that my tank bag will obscure the Zumo.

I'm afraid that having trawled through lots of GPS mount answers and 'me too' answers I resorted to a fresh thread in an attempt to get answers to a narrow question.

Do you know if there is any difference in the rigidity of the 235 or 231?

TIA

RAM-B-235 double u-bolt has a cast bracket (55 x 65mm) and supplied with 1.25" u-bolts .. no shim (RAP-319) so do not see this flying on oveal rail above clocks.

RAM-B-231 single u-bolt 1" (stainless steel) albeit black coated same as RAM-B-231Z so darn difficult to tell difference, but does has shim (RAP-319) in the poly bag.

RAM-B-213Z has two u-bolts, 1" and 1.25" with shim as the cast bracket has elongated slot holes to take either sizes, but max is 1.25"

The black shim (RAP-319) in RAM-B-231/231Z kit sits inside 1" u-bolt to pad out, I would also add a wrap of old inner tube 1/2" wide approx 2" around the rail, the nyloc nuts pick up on u-bolt thread at 3/4" upwards.

Er thanks

And as to my question re. the comparative stiffness of the two units?
