Ramdom right indicator:-(

So! There I was on a 600mile round trip over the weekend having covered only 100 of my 600.my right indicator decides to turn on by its self I press cancel and it come straight back on??? So I thinks to myself if I left indicate that I'll cancel the right then I'll be able to the left!( with me thus far?)oh on! I'm now motoring down the M1 with the hazards on :-( so In a panic I hold and keep my finger on the cancel button for about 30 seconds and.... Wahay! They both go off..... Bonus!
Then of course 40 miles later same thing, and again and again always having to hold the cancel button for a good long while to stop it flashing
Now since being home home I sprayed it wd40 and its no better
And NOPE! No different so! Does anyone have any ideas? Or had it happen to them

Unfortunately for you, the button inside the right hand switchgear housing for the indicator is faulty. The button has a rubber cover on it which eventually wears and once water gets into the button it will fail, that's why the system "thinks" that the indicator has been pressed.

Do you have heated grips? If you don't, then you are lucky in that there are two spare unused buttons inside the housing and if you are good with a soldering iron, one can be removed and the faulty indicator button replaced. If you do have heated grips then it is possible to buy a replacement switch button, but not from BMW and they will want to charge you in excess of £150 for a complete switchgear housing.

If you decide to take the switchgear apart to effect repairs, if I remember correctly, there are three screws to separate the housing, one of which is hidden by a sticker. Take a read of this thread, it may help you with the repair:

The waterproof covers over the micro switches tend to rot with repeated WD40 applications.

I cured my sticking switch by clearing all the latex away (it was the perished bits sticking the switch), then flushing out with WD40.

Switch works fine but needs annual clear/re-waterproof.

motorworks do replacement switches for very little money and easier than trying a repair. mine was £60 and guaranteed for 6 months. 2 years later, still going strong!

Just had the same thing. I removed the 4 indicator bulbs as I was sick of them coming on. Bought a second hand switch block off Ebay. Riding with no indicators till it turns up.

I may have a switch or two left over from when I sent to USA for a batch to allow me to repair LHS indicator, let me know.

You need to be a little handy with a soldering iron but I managed it after melting the first one with a bit too much heatsoak!

Advise buying 2 in case you do the same.

If you decide to seal anything with silicone, make sure to use electronics grade. The normal stuff throws out acetic acid - tarnishes electrical contacts.
