Ok this seems like the place to post this.
Picked up my GSw a couple of months back coming from only ever knowing sports bikes. Would now never look back but a story for another day.
I was out on the back roads stuck behind a lorry but hey, it was sunny and I was on my trusty steed so I was happy just trundling along. All of a sudden this huge honking road kill of a deer appears from in between the lorrys back wheels.... FFCUUUKKK! Bodily response was to make my heart sink before instantly cramming my body full of adrenaline.
Thankfully my brain was working better than my now ridged limbs. I was doing 60 and the bloody thing was taking up my whole lane.... No choice but to go over it. Like in a split second I'm thinking what do I do if I come off, which way is the bike going to go and lastly that it was going to give my bike some great 'character' once I pick it back up.
Then the big moment is upon me and I'm going for it......bump bump as my suspension soaks up the entire deer and it's behind me. No off, no sore back, no crazy flying moments.... WTF! The suspension soaked it all up without even blinking. Apart from some deer guts I had to clean off the engine it was more uneventful than a regular trip through a pot hole.
Afterwards of course I was nervously laughing to myself.... Looking back it was probably some overdose on adrenaline but I was expecting things to go horribly wrong the moment my front tyre hit it. Awesome bike indeed.
On a side note after that I then encountered a newly laid road which was at the 'loose gravel' stage..... FCCCUKKK number 2. I have never ridden on loose stuff before and oh no.... there is also a turn in this road! I'm wondering if these Anakee 3's can handle loose stuff, what is 80/20 anyway! But again no fuss, no emergency the GS just trundled along thinking I was a crazy owner. It felt strange feeling both wheels taking slightly different lines over the gravel but it never even budged on the turn.
A very long story short...... I feel my and my GS have had our first 'moment' and given far more confidence in how much this bike can actually handle. After the gravel I decided to go over it again on the way home and now really want to do some off road courses.
