I just ran my 12 with no silencer and Remus headers for a few seconds :drool :D Why does a silencer spoil that of beat crackle so much :( It sounded more like my classic Scooby turbo

When I had my 12ADV in for its last service there was a GS12 that had a whole new motor installed because the mechanic it had run lean because the exhaust can at the weld to the pipe had cracked and somehow convinced the engine management system to run lean and bugger the engine.
Is this possible?

I'm no expert but my logic would say that since the sensors are in the headers, they would automatically adjust for any changes in back pressure due to a crack near the silencer.

meltdown

sounds iffy to me,if the silencer had cracked then i would imagine the mixture strengh would lean off & the lambda sesors would detect this and richen it up
maybe they could not do this enough hence the failure

The lambda sensors only influence the fuelling when the engine is running in closed-loop mode, ie at relatively low revs and throttle openings.

You missed the "i.e. not very often" off the end.:D
