Hi UKGSER's - I finally sorted out my bike after 2 years of drivability issues. (intermittent rough idle stalling when warm/hot) My bike had a specific problem when warm/hot and coming down from speed under engine braking. At the stop light after the long deceleration (when fuel injectors and ignition cut) my bike would run like crap and often stall getting worse with time over a long period of time - years. I replaced about everything like spark plugs, coils, O2 sensors, performed TPS, reset adaptations, checked valve clearance, replaced idle steppers. Never had an engine code or check engine light. I disconnected the charcoal canister to rule that purge valve issue out. Ultrasonic cleaning of fuel injectors fixed my issues. I learned a lot about my bike which is now satisfying but never suspected fuel injectors. I might just buy two new Bosch injectors at $59 each here in the US at EuroMotoElectrics. My bike sits a lot in the cold winter months and we have 10% Ethanol in our fuel both of which probably doesn't help.I have a 2013 R1200 GSA (last aircooled motor) and have over years had degrading idle. Especially bad after hard throttle and engine braking to red light. As it degraded experienced stalls. Usually better when cold. Never had a GS911 code or Check Engine light. Bike sits in garage.
- I checked all vacuum leaks on the TBs
- Changed idle control valves (made no difference)
- Synch TB
- Changed air filter
- Performed all GS911 adaptation resets and service items
- Changed spark plugs with valve clearance check (no adjustment necessary to 22k miles as of yet)
Nothing helped.
One day when running/idling particularly shitty, I was spraying WD40 on the TBs looking for leaks and at the point of giving up, I grabbed the right TB and squeezed the cables under the Right TB and everything cleared and ran smoothly. Cut the zip ties, cleaned the two connectors with electrical cleaner spray, plugged/unplugged a few times, and 1,000 miles on it is running perfectly.
I don't even know where those wires go but the bike is like new and no more idle issues. I hope that this information might help someone out!
Now I also notice much smoother running, less vibration, more power that I didn't know I was missing. The dealership didn't find this issue either but was happy to charge me $900 to check the valves and change the spark plugs. Before going back to the dealership I decided instead to just start replacing things since it was cheaper and considered it maintenance on the 13 year old bike. Now I have a box of perfectly good electronics for backup parts! (coils, O2 sensors, idle steppers)
