The Raspberry Pi goes on sale tomorrow - if you can get on to their website. A credit card sized computer for $35 (networked version) with HDMI capability. Install linux and xbmc and stick it behind your telly for a super cheap HTPC.

Been waiting for this and following the blog about the development for a while.
The bit about the tax regime in this country preventing them building it here was particularly galling (in a nutshell - importing components to build it here- high tax. Getting it built overseas and then importing it - low/no tax.)
No wonder we don't make anything any more.

I've been following this too, the developers of Puppy Linux look like they'll work on a version for it.

That particular arrangement is down to the EU, not the UK, some sort of protection for European semi-conductor manufacturers perhaps?

I intend to get a couple of the 'B' model for experimenting with, I think they are the sort of thing that will 'find' uses. I might see how my son gets on with one as well, he likes computers.

Rasberry PI

Following this production as well should make a good media streamer.....everyone form an orderly queue......:JB

Finally got mine yesterday. Installed raspbmc on a 2gb sd card, installed xbmc remote on my phone. Connected a mini USB power, plugged it into the network and switched it on. Half an hour later I'm browsing music, photos and hd videos on the tv. Loads of setup still to do but for under £30 I'm really, really impressed.

Plus 1

Had mine just over a week very good up to now. Put a 16Gb Integra Ultima Pro Sd in, did note that theres quite a few SD cards that are not recommended and you need to reference the Rasberry Pi forum for the list. :thumb2

Been thinking about getting a raspberry pi. I would like to get BBC iplayer, 4od, media streaming, web browsing, games etc. on my telly, is the pi the tool for the job. I would probably find other uses for it as well. Seems to me to be a very cheap and interesting toy.

Mines not running any games but the rest of the above are working. There's a couple of xbmc projects in beta so not perfect, but they work well.
