My 2010 GSA displays a rattle when taking off from standstill and at low revs. Nothing mechanical, more like resonating from a loose item. Could it be the exhaust valve? Although seems more to come from the left cylinder engine area. Maybe the cylinder protectors?

Anyone have any idea? Been doing this for some time now and I am not worried it damages the bike, just annoyed by the sound

Check the obvious stuff (exhaust etc) but it may simply be badly fitted or loose bodywork.
Has it been recently serviced how many miles etc

Thanks BT

20k mls, will get service next week. When you say exhaust, you mean the flap that can rattle? Is that common for these?

Only when cold? - I think you'll find they all do that to some extent, mines usually shut up by 1/4 mile from home...

Do you have factory crash bars fitted. Had similar noise turned out to be the nearside top mount (small screw) had disappeared and bars were vibrating.

You don't have a super dooper bigger mud slinger fitted do you? Mine rattles sometimes against the swing arm at low revs

Mine makes a noise when cold from the alternator belt on the front of the engine making a flapping sound, it settles down once warm.

I do, not sure how to determine it is the mudslinger

My mud slinger has a scratch in it about 1" long where it catches against the swing arm on low revs, it's bolted up on the under tray and cable tied to the frame so it's fitted right, but it defo rattles against the swing arm hence the embedded scratch. Doesn't bother me anymore.
