I have a rattle coming from within the tank which is audible above the noise of the engine esp at 2.5k-3k revs. Can also hear it when riding over rough surfaces and I can thump the tank and hear something rattle. I've removed the outer plastics and fuel filler cap but couldn't easily diagnose or locate the offending item from within. Fuel gauge works fine. Any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem been thinking it was my keys if no one comes back I'm having a look saturday and will post findings

Thanks Bigun. There seemed to be alloy pipe work inside held in side just under the filler cap. Didn't feel brave enough to start poking around.

If you have an 08 or an 09 it will have a fuel strip fitted. That fits onto a weighted hook fitted just below the filler cap. Its possible that the strip isnt properly located and that it or the bracket thingy is hitting the top of the tank. Take of the fuel cap and there's another cap underneath it. Remove that and you should be able to tell if thats the trouble.

Yeah mines 09 and this makes sense because I ran out of fuel the other day miles from anywhere in the rain with two bars still showing its whilst tipping the bike side to side I relised the loose nut /clip noise was coming from top of tank area inside cheers beemerman

Also check the crash bar bracket where it bolts to the engine under the petrol tank. The M6 screws can shake loose and cause a rattle.

Well I've had mine apart tonight and it turns out the noise is from the weight that swings from the filler neck which operates a needle type valve to the over flow pipe .Why it's started to be noiser I don't know does anyone know if a spring or some dampener should be attach to it
