My 1200GS Screen Rattles .
In the past i thought it was the Plastic carrier that had worn ,and it had.
I had a wee bit machined , it helped , but didnt cure it.
On my way back from Wales , Amongst other Hanlins i noticed that a wee
rubber bush had worn and the rattle had got worse. I am going to try a
small spring washer ,not totally tightened ,with wee blast of loctite , i dont hold out much hope for it ,but its worth the 15 mins its going to take.
So all you inspired chaps out there , does your screen rattle , do you care
did you fix it , HOW !
And just to add to the wee complications , i would only like simple fixs.
I dont want to know about a New Screen at £sssss.

Mine used to rattle at lower revs and was especially annoying in the first few gears. The fix was very simple.

I sold it and got a R100GS PD, no more rattles from the screen:thumb2

My tax disc holder is fixed inside the screen and REALLY vibrates at low revs. This easily drowns out any rattling from the screen.

The original screen on my bike used to rattle a fair bit, and developed a crack around one of the mounting holes. Changed under warranty, and the second screen has never rattled at all. Presumably they changed the front mounting bolts at the same time. Maybe worth trying as a low cost effort? It'll be interesting to see if your spring washer idea works, though.

(Civil, did you ever sort the windows of the phantom 24-hr petrol station man?)

Well i binned the wee spring washers , just didnt seem right ,agricultural
or something. I did however remove the single piece rubber bush and
replace both sides ,with a Rubber/plastic bush, putting the wee plastic washer to the outside ,this allows the screen to be adjusted still but allows me
to tighten the crossbar a bit tighter hence reducing vibration.
It works on a short jaunt round town , will try it out in earnest soon.

Good to meet you Robin , Errr what kinda panniers had you on
Over the Weekend. :augie:augie:augie:augie:augie
