I replaced head gasket and rocker shaft assembly after a tumble the other week and have a rattle from cyl. head. The rattle seems to come and go possibly in relation to load/throttle setting. It is quite a light rattle, more of a ticking a bit like a tappetty rattle. I did adjust tappets so I think they are ok, besides, if it was tappets they would rattle all the time and be noticable at idle wouldn't they? My rattle is hardly noticable at idle, just when riding along, coming and going in a very annoying manner! I have checked the cam chain tensioner, all the holes are clear and spring is springy. It is slightly notchy in the bore but not too bad and it was fine before doing the job. I have not checked rocker shaft end float however and as they are the only bit that is different it may be that. Could that cause a ticking noise?
Also head gasket is leaking oil from near the lower front. It is the new type metal 3 layer one, is it meant to have O rings fitted where the oilways are, or was I meant to use instant gasket when fitting it?
