Rattling brakes???

I have been trying to fathom a recent rattle on my bike since I picked it up from the B*W dealers on Friday.

It happens every time I go over bumpy roads at slow speeds. I'm pretty sure it's the front brake pads. I can grab hold of them and rattle them from side to side - is this normal???

In fact I then drove over some bumps and squeezed the brakes slightly and no rattle.

My bike is a Y plate standard 1150GS - non ABS.

Has anyone else had this?? I'm taking in to the dealers tomorrow and could do with some ammo, so any feedback would be handy!

Yeh in the rain after a while on the motorway, they make a hell of a racket but I have not looked into it yet. Any ideas are welcome.

There should be anti-rattle springs bearing on the locating pins. -
perhaps they've been left out ?

Rattly.

Have same issue on R850R.

The pads I have in at moment are not OE so possibly missing springs. Due for a change imminently so when done with OE again, I'll let you know if it cures the problem.

I also use ear plugs now so the rattle is not so pronounced.

I myself changed over from original pads to aftermarket EBC pads. These pads although cheaper, were not fitted with the anti rattle springs.

I didn't worry too much and kept them on the bike for two reasons. One, I had bought them cheap, and, two, they were now used and I couldn't take them back.

After a period of time I was cleaning the brakes out and noticed that where the pads were rattling they were in fact wearing out the pins that hold them in place. These pins are not that cheap so I quickly onsold the old pads to a mate who is racing (he needed them for practice) and put in a set of original pads fitted with anti rattle springs. I also had to rotate the pins 180º so that the pads were sitting in the correct position as the pins had worn slightly.

Currently I have another set of aftermarket pads fitted. These pads have one half of the pads thicker by about 1mm. This is a good feature, one side wears quicker than the other and you are left with a set of pads that are completely worn out on one side only, but with plenty of meat on the other half!

if you really want to stop them rattling, use a bit of silicone on the piston side - very small amount - don't try and glue it in, just a small smear

The ferodos i sell ( got to keep trying ) have the anti rattle springs fitted, and they're only £12 a set ( ferodo FDB2050P platinum pads ) -------- Don't all rush !!!!!
