Ok........ so I decided to change the alternator belt, adjust the valves and rocker arms.

The belt was easy enough, in fact in was harder to remove the old belt than to install the new belt.

First I put the bike into 6th gear then removed the primary plugs, not need to remove the secondary plugs, then I cut a section off a plastic drinks bottle.

By rotating the crank pull I fed the piece of plastic between the top pulley and belt, when it was fully engaged I used a vice grips to pull the belt away.

Now to the hard bit or at least I thought, I installed the new belt onto the top pulley and then got it started on the bottom pulley. Using a 36mm socket and ratchet I rotated the crank clock wise while pushing the belt onto the bottom pulley. The belt went on without any difficulty.

Onto the valves and rockers. I checked my tool box and couldn't find any feeler gauges, buggar, what am I gonna do now.

Then I remembered a Blue Peter episode where they used cardboard boxes for various projects.

Well would you believe it, as it turns out the box of Special K is .30mm thick and Shredded Wheat box is .15mm, exactly the thickness's I needed. And believe it or not the carton from the OXO box is 0.2mm thick just the job for the rocker arms.

All done the jobs OXO and my Moto is now purring.

Log in next week when I will be using lolly pop sticks to remove tyres.

This is blatant commercialism if ever I saw it. I'm surprised the mods haven't moved this thread to the Vendors section.

By the way, how much for a full set of appropriate cereal box ends posted to West Wicklow, (for an 1150)?

What sort of lead time with an order? Do I have to wait until you finish the packet?

Fergal, I believe that the cheaper LIDL home brand cereal boxes suit the 1150valves:D:D

Talk about stereotyping - this could only have been posted in the Irish section!

What concerns me is, how on earth did you know how to do all this as it is exactly as per the offical BMW workshop instructions? :nenau

Surely you saw all the cereal boxes we had in reception...:augie

Oh and the best lolly pop sticks are the ones from the Magnum ice creams as they break the bead better...:thumb

Now stop giving all our secrets away please.:blast

Oh... and the Magnum sticks are crap, there of a weak substandard lumber, I prefer to use HB sticks as they are from the very strong Ash tree:D
