Well after getting my final drive bearing replaced I've come to re-build my bike. And I'm stuck.
Are there any tips or tricks for getting the shaft/final drive connection to slot in? I'm trying to line up the double slot as best i can with the limited visibility but it just doesn't want to slide home.

Use a thin rod through the paralever bearing hole to support the drive shaft

Horrible, dirty, fiddly job.Put molyslip (or similar) on the splines for lubrication.
I use a rag, with a section hanging to pull out, under the drive shaft for support.I found it helpful to slide the U/J in the bevel box as far forward as possible (without it coming off its bevel shaft) so i could get my fingers in to line it up to the drive shaft.

I watched Roy Gardner when he swapped my GS final drive for one from an R1100S & he did it with the slick skill of someone who's done it loads of times. Give him a call & I'm sure he'd share any trick to it. I couldn't believe how easily & quickly he did it, but there's no way I could tell you what he did.

Drive fitting

Having done this several times while "experimenting" best way is to get a lump of rag, rollone end into a ball that will hold the drive shaft at mid height. Put the ball under it and use a head torch (Led pattern) so you can see slide in the uj end ans when in Pul out the rag,use a tough bit of rag th\t won't rip off or it's back to square one!. Sounds complicated but used it every time and it works ned a bit of patience but it is a pain of a job anyway but it works. Yiou can get the correct grease from you local friendly BMW dealer about £6 for a tube, last you for ages.
