Having drained the final drive oil and replaced a seal, I am now faced with matching the final drive unit splines to the UJ on the driveshaft.
The final drive unit is still hinged to the base of the swing arm and I have already spent a considerable time trying to match the drive unit splines to the UJ to slot the drive unit into the drive shaft. It's sending me nuts
Any advice on an effective way to do this will be very gratefully received :thumb2

Tony, you are truly a master and a gentleman. :bow
Will give that a go as soon as it gets light enough to see, and once I get over my embarrassment for not searching for the solution on here first :augie

You are welcome, good luck:thumb2

And job done thanks Tony :thumb2
Funny how a little bit of knowledge can make so much difference :D

For what it's worth:

The clue to disengage and engage the driveshaft to the final drive is to compress the driveshaft as much as possible. This is done in order to minimize the angle between the female part of the aft joint and make it as straight as possible.

For instance, when you disengage the final drive, if you first lower the FD to get a gap between the gaiter and the swingarm and then put a large screwdriver into the gap of the rear universal joint, then lift the FD again in order to compress the drivsaft as much as possible, then use the screwdriver to hold the driveshaft back from extending when you lower the FD again, the FD will slide right of.
