Having just re-keyed a lock from a 28l topbox bought from a fellow on here, I thought that I would offer up this DIY guide.
I cannot claim this work is mine.
It was given to me by the seller, but found it so useful, I thought that I would post it up to share.
(Mods. This came to me as a PDF, but photobucket will only handle JPEG, so its got a bit split up. Can you re-post in Font-Of -All-Wisdom? I can send you the original PDF).

The light on flying leads that I made up.
Use a 2p coin to turn the 1/4 turn access bung.

The rain guards are tapered to the outside to allow the entry of the key to part them.

I managed to swap the wafers around and was only actually short of no. 1 wafer. My local BMW dealer supplied one, without charge.
When I re-assembled the lock barrel, I tested its operation on the 'release' mechanism, and made sure it locked/unlocked by pushing first before committing to closing the lid down.
