What is the little red light for just under the button that's sets clock time on a r1200gs? Was going down motorway getting p""s wet through and noticed a red light that I never noticed in the last 5 years of riding this bike

Normally flashes when OE alarm is on

Cheers for reply. Light came on steady and stayed on. I think water got into clocks as everything on the display died then flashed back on. Done this a few time before they stayed off. Done 300 mile today in the dry and everything seems to be ok again

Red light

they are not supposed to be used in the wet

Does the panel have removable covers? If so, it's worth opening the instrument panel to make sure its not wet inside.

It's the light sensor - put your hand over it when riding and the instrument lights will come on. There's nothing wrong with it - you were simply riding in low light levels.

The instruments back lights flick on and off a few times at dusk. Normal as its low light, but the OP mentioned a RED LIGHT flashing. Ive never seen that on mine.

Mine usually comes if the alarm has been activated. Turn the ignition off, then back on and clears. I think it is there to let you know the bike has been disturbed; maybe some scrote was fiddling with something that is about to fall off - like the wheels :-)

I think there's some confusion going on here. There is a light sensor by the reset button which turns the instrument back lights on and off according to the light levels. This is not a little red light. There is a separate little red light which is linked to the OEM Alarm system and flashes ON/OFF etc as appropriate to the functions of the alarm. The OP is clearly stating a little red light - two different things my lovelies....:D

No he didn't ..... no mention of a red light flashing

I wrote the words LIGHT and RED in close proximity, though I "might" have added flashing so my point is not wrong. Of course the full story was later added by folks who actually do know something useful.

Mine has the factory alarm fitted, as stated red light flashes when it is operational.
The only time I've seen it come on when riding was when I got back to the bike and lifted it up off the sidestand before de-activating the alarm, I turned on the key to stop the alarm sounding and then immediately started it and rode off,
As I was riding down the road the red light was on for sometime then turned itself off after a few miles,
