Really Bad?

Hi Anybody have an idea what's wrong?
2005 GS 24,000 miles
For last week at slow speed felt as if bike was coming apart, checked all nuts and bolts but everything tight.
Put bike on centre stand start engine in neutral, with clutch out sounds dreadful, pull clutch in sounds as good as ever.
Put into first let clutch out and bike shakes and judders, back wheel jumping about. Apply rear brake whole back end shakes and sounds as if about to fall to pieces.
There doesn't seem to be any vibration at back wheel or in shaft drive/swing arm it seems to becoming from back of engine.
Any thoughts or advice on problem and likely cure/cost will be much appreciated.
 
Could be wear in one or both of the universal joints, each end of the drive (prop)shaft. Unfortunately this may have effected the gearbox output shaft bearing and or the pinion bearing of the final drive. My guess is pinion and adjacent UJ.

Will sound like crap on the stand as its not designed to run like that- the angles of all the UJ's etc are only correct when the bike is off the stand with a rider sitting on it. It will knock and bang with nobody sat on it.
 
when mine did this at 16k miles, it was the final drive packing... £900ish

This is no problem ..

This is no problem .. the sound is come from gearbox and this is normal when use central stand and include some gear

I hade the same case! :-)
 
A silly idea

Did you check both the throttle cables are seated properly in the throttle bodies?

A friend had similar symptoms along with loud knocking noises. Reseating one of the throttle cables brought (enormous) releif in seconds.

I too have come across this. It's easy to catch the throttle cable with a boot and pop it out of it's seat. It will cause an immense throttle balance issue. So well worth having a good look to check all is well in that department first.

You say the vibration is there at low speed (ie when riding the bike) so the shaft issue mentioned above (bike running in gear whilst on centre stand) isn't going be your problem.

If it's not the throttle cables, then it's likely that you have an issue with one of the main bearings somewhere between the clutch (though there is a vague possibility that the clutch itself has come apart in some way) and the final drive. Any of these can cause excessive vibrations, in which case you need to get it to a dealer so they can tell you what exactly the problem is.
