Rear brake disc run out.

I have a 57 plate which had an ABS issue that I've recently had sorted. Whilst sorting this out the mechanical mentioned that the rear disc was warped.

With the ABS working for the first time in months, I'm getting pulsing when braking as the linking only works with the ABS.

So, I've changed the rear disc tonight, but there is still run out on the disc which looks like a warped disc, but the new disc is definitely flat, well seated on the five mounts etc.

I've tried just tightening the bolts up just snug which seems to minimise, but not eliminate the run out.
Torquing things up right gives significant run out, causing the calliper to move a lot and this is where the pulsing on braking is coming from!

Anyone any experience of the disc mounts on the rear hub causing any issues like this?

I had a similar problem that was down to the wheel/disc carrier not on the splines properly. Ocean in Plymouth ripped me off a lot of money to check it and they said it was 'within limits'. I measured the relative difference on the wheel mating faces with a DTI and noticed there was significant variation. The nice man at CWs changed the carrier to the newer one under warranty as there was also evidence of cracking at the mounting points and it solved the problem.

The caliper is where you feel the pulsing. But problem is bent disc or run-out on disc mounting points. Check for corrosion under disc faces or as above cracking disc carrier

I've double checked the disc mounts and disc - no apparent corrosion.

I also checked the rear wheel and couldn't see any significant run out, so I'm thinking that the disc mounts on the carrier may be NG.

So next step may be to remove the carrier for a good check and then fit a new one if there's any evidence of cracks or distortion.

Anyone managed to get one off with a std puller?

I used a puller loaned from a local car shop and heated the "spider" with a blowlamp, heating a bit, then winding up the puller, heating a bit more....

To refit the new one I put it in the oven on max for an hour first - You still have to be quick and careful.

Yes. I was one of the first to suffer from cracks on the flange on my 2004 bike, there's a thread on it somewhere under the stickys for this section (common problems and solutions) IIRC.
