I'm having problems with my ABS on my 02 1150GS (See my other post)..

As part of this fix search, I have noticed that my brake light doesn't come on when i use the peddle... As this may?? be part of the ABS's sh*t fit... I'm trying to solve it...

Does anyone know where to find the rear brake light switch...?

I've looked all round the peddle etc, but to no avail... is it hidden somewhere up under the tank with all the ABS gubbins?

Have you done the silly thing and checked the bulb first :augie

May not be, but you wouldn't be the first........

im sure theres only one brake light bulb , it would be a first if it had seperate front and rear brake light bulbs.
ive just looked at my wiring diagram and it shows switch at rear of brake pedal? double check yours big yellow:thumb

okay... I've double double checked... There is no switch anywhere near the peddle... Infact I've traced the brake pipework right back under the tank to the ABS unit and cant find any sign of a rear brake light switch....

There is a small electrical plug on that side of the sub frame that is not connected to anything... there are two wires running into it (one is grey/yellow the other green and black)... could it be that someone has removed the switch? but then again I cant see where you would mount a switch!

Anyone got a piccy showing their rear brake light switch set up?

Am I going insane?

Help!

It is the same bulb for both front and rear brakes. The switch is located on the rear brake pedal hanger it is not a large bit of kit (probaly smaller than a postage stamp) and is tucked around the back beside the return spring so could be easily missed. If you look at the footrest bracket you will see a cable running down behind it from just behind the bracket that the brake cylinder is attached too, follow this up towards the seat and there is a plug. Disconnect the plug and stick a meter across the two wires and you will be able to tell if the switch is working or not by operating the pedal and checking resistance. This explanation seems much more complicated than the solution when I try to read it :blast

okay... I've had another poke about round the footrest (infact this time I actaully removed it)... And I've found the two holes onto which the switch bolts... but no switch...

It was working fine earlier in the week... so I can only assume that some theiving scumbag has made of with it (and its wires) for some reason!

Looking at the switches on the motorworks website.. there appears to be a different switch for the ABS and Non-abs models.... Do they plug into the same place on the loom or somewhere else?

Cheers for all the guidence so far!

the green and yellow wire connector on the right is for the rear brake switch, sounds like it's missing

Well.... After removing the peddle/footrest again and having a chat with my local BMW dealer.. It's been confirmed... some theiving scumbag has made off with the switch... It was definatly there a couple of weeks back as I tested the brake lights responce to both brakes before its MOT... and the tester also checked...

So one trip ordered brake light switch... £24.... And hopefully that will sort out this... wonder if it will also sort out the ABS fault? We shall wait and see!

Cheers for all the help and advice... It's good to get other peoples perspectives on a problem!
