Hey all,

Can anyone shed any light on the 'shims' I found when I popped out the rear pads from my GSA 16'plate rear calliper.

I was expecting to only find 2 brake pads, but what actually came out was the 2 brake pads as expected, plus one very thin metal plate, shaped the same as the brake pad structure; and a plastic/cardboard type piece of material again the same shape as the brake pads.

Anyone shed any light on what these extra two pieces of brake pad shaped materials may be and why they are in my brakes? I thought it was just pads and calliper, I wasn't prepared for other shapes bits and pieces? I can't find any reference to them in user manual etc....

Cheers.

Totally standard, they stop vibration / brake squeal.

So, please accept my ignorance, but as they fell out, where do they go?

Do they both go on the wheelside pad? If so, I assume the order is pad, shaped metal piece, then plastic/rubber piece against calliper?

Or, does either go behind the swingarm side pad?

Cheers.

Normally (based on Car use)

2 shims per caliper - on the back of pad and sit against the piston NOT disk

if you have a combination of metal / plastic, then its the same just make sure its the same on both discs / calipers

so it would look like this Disc / Front of pad - back of pad / metal shim / plastic shim / piston

if in doubt contact your dealer, he may advise the platic and metal shims are reversed

Hmmm, thats odd as only have one metal piece and one plastic piece, so just one complete set not two.

Pretty sure they both go on the wheel side of the calliper, the other side doesn't have a shim. The plastic piece is sandwiched between the metal shim and the pad.

Excellent that would make sense, I shall do that then.

Cheer, know I could count on the brains here to show me the light!
