I have put the bike away after this weekend I daren’t ride it until I have taken it back to the dealer.

I had the front brake hose recall sorted two weeks ago and all seems to be OK

However after Saturday’s ride I noticed the rear brake pedal had more free play travel in it than ever before. The brake works but as I say needs extra pressure to get to the bite point. It is definitely free play rather than spongy.
The front brake lever seems to work fine.

My question is, is it possibly related to the recall work, i.e. bleeding etc of the system after the fitting of the front hose or is it just co-incidental that perhaps the brake pads are worn, is this typical of the effect of worn pads?
I can’t see\identify the rear pads in the calliper.
The bike has done circa 7,000 miles.

I have no doubt that that the dealer will sort the bike for me, I am just worried about riding it for now though, the dealer doesn’t re-open until Tuesday 6th Jan.

If you use your hand to operate the rear brake, you will feel the slack in the linkage before the cylinder is engaged. There is an adjusting screw on the spindle to reduce / increase the play. You will need 1 x 8 mm and 1 x 10 mm spanner to do this. I couldn't find a specfic setting for the free play in the manual or on the maintenance cd.

why dont u just use the front brake for the trip to the dealer, and depending on the year of the bike the front and rear are linked anyway.

Yep will do that anyway, thanks though. 08 bike for info.

Hmm I thought about adjusting the linkage but it surprised me as to how quickly the free play appeared!!!

Seems strange, I am only doing it because I want to change the pedal height. Seems like you are under warranty, so it should be checked / fixed for free anyway.
