Bought new GSA 1200te in March, since day one on application of rear breake I experience a horrible grinding sound and vibration through the brake lever.
I have now taken the bike to the dealer to sort out on 3 occasions.
They have replaced the rear disc twice and on the last occasion replaced the final drive, none of which has solved the problem.
I have now been told this could be a "CHARACTERISTIC" of the model.

Has anyone else experience of this and could anyone give any advice as my BMW dealer has no idea how to solve this problem
Thanks

Take it to a mechanic that knows what he's doing.

"Characteristic" is dealer speak for "we don't know"

Not rocket science. Its either going to be caliper, pads, disc or mounting/alignment of one or more.

Sounds strange to me, have you ridden another similar bike to see if it is a "characteristic"
No doubt another owner will be along soon to give good advice.

Not had a problem with mine, why not try a demo bike for comparison?

Are you sure you're not stamping on it and setting the ABS off?

My GS is my first (modern) BMW and my first bike with ABS. It's got an awful long, soggy travel to the rear pedal, even after the first year fluid change. Consequently, I rarely use it, unless slow riding. Others here say their pedal is short-travel and firm. I may try bleeding mine as I have a fairly low opinion of dealers. However, just using the front lever, I can hear and feel the linked system doing things with the rear brake when only just moving.

My brake pedal is ridiculously low - I have to take my foot off the rest to operate it. I complained at the 600 mile service, and I will be again at the 6k in a couple of weeks.

Rear brake pedal travel cured?

There have been recent other posts regarding this issue http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/426263-Rear-Brake-Pedal-Long-Travel-Problem

My 2013 GS also developed the same problem, but I sold it before the issue was fixed!
However, my new 2016 2600 miler is not as good as I would like so I had a BM technician take a quick look.

He told me that its not a bleeding issue (you probably wont get any air out) but down to the fit of the rubber piston seals in their bores i.e. Very tight. (Cant quite remember the exact wording or figure out the logic!) sure someone will!

He went on to show me that by physically pushing the calliper against the disk & thus forcing the piston fully back into its bore that the brake pedal would have loads of movement. By activating the brake a few times the pedal was back to the top of its travel & firm again (try it!).
Another of his customers had admitted to not using the rear brake as much due to the brakes being linked, this had also resulted with the same problem.
I'll start using mine a bit more & see how it feels!
