Rear caliper pad retaining pin?

Got a stainless one to replace the rusty one that's in... removed the clip.. and the pin doesn't seem to want to move... it's turning easily... and by the looks of it , it should come out of the wheel side ....

Have I missed something?

You have to drive it out with a pin punch (or a suitable nail...). The pin has a spring collet arrangement that locates it in the caliper body and usually corrodes into place. A sharp tap on the pin punch should suffice to shift it though!

I take it I'm right that you tap from the outside of the calliper

Yes, you poke the pin punch into the small hole on the outside and drive the pin out towards the rear wheel. It's obvious when you look at it as the hole into which you poke the pin punch is far too small for the pin itself.

No, had to use the old one, considering how much it was , that's a bit tight

Did you not notice that the pin was not threaded.

Didn't examine the new one thoroughly before I took the old one out, but it was pretty obvious there was no thread , but thanks for the input ..... Smug

remember when replacing the pin to make sure the hole for the retaining cotterpin is easily identifiable...and at the right angle to insert said pin..

It's on, and I did .... it could get messy if you forget the cotter pin
