Rear caliper sticking

Im doing something wrong here...

I replaced my rear brake pads yesterday with some new BMW ones, everything went normally, but the wheel is not rotating particularly freely and is quite stiff to move. I rode the bike for about 100yds and it is defintely not right, the disc was overheating and there was a nasty smell coming from the new pads.

I stripped it all down and tried it all again. And again, but still the same.

I put the old pads back on as they still have some life left in them and they are fine, but Im stumped as to why the new pads are too tight?

Everything is loose and ok until I tighten up the Torx bolts attaching the caliber to the bike, then it all goes too tight. I dont have a torque wrench and am guessing the correct tightness - but even a little over finger tight is too much.

Ive pushed the pistons back in as far as they will go. The retaining pin has coppper grease all over it - it is fairly corroded but I dont think the pads are sticking on that.

Any ideas?

Floating pins

Are the floating pins free ?
The front one on mine was seized solid (due to a split gaitor)
Had to take the caliper off and put it in vice to undo.
Funnily enough, when I replaced my final drive last week, this pin was loose so maybe it needs some Locktite.
 
Are the pads correctly seated - not at the pin end, but the captive end, they can give the appearence of being in OK, but not in their seats .

Pushed them nearly all the way back in - they are about 1-2mm proud of the surface and wont go back anymore using just my thumbs.

I've read elsewhere that loosening the bolts on the master cylinder helps to push the pistons all the way back in.

Its either that or the pads arent properly seated as Steptoe suggested. I will give both a go.

And they do only fit one way round, unless you ride in reverse... ;)
