The damper on my 1200RT ( 05 model with 18k) started to leak oil,not at a alarming rate but the rear wheel was covered in the magic stuff. Dealer will replace the unit on Wed.
Cost : a cool £1050 plus labour. Paid by the BM extended warranty. Now some GS/GSA owners have ESA on they bike . The cost of the units vary between £750 to £850 depending of the year.
If you have extended warranty but the bike has done over 30000mile the unit is not covered.
In a bizarre way the unit can not be rebuild , dealer will keep the unit for 3 months after which he must destroy the shock. What a waste:(.
I suppose the ESA can be always replaced with a normal shock?

Just ordered a used GSA with 9k on the clock, remainder of warranty etc. I hope the ESA behaves itself.

New shock fitted , they couldn't calibrated the ESA , because the ZFE didn't recognize the new unit > Technician is waiting for a solution from BM Bracknell :augie. A replacement ZFE is around £300/400 plus labour.

Any body still waiting to have there ESA shock replaced, I've been waiting 6 weeks now and think it pretty poor:mad:

was at dealers the other day and saw my old bike still sitting there awaiting shock replacement... no fun, i know

If I read their advert right, they alter your existing shock to improve damping and replace with a Wilbers spring. Not sure if they can repair broken ones though...

Mike

i don't think so.

it's slightly ambiguous, but i'd say they use new wilbers shocks, possibly with the OEM servos to operate the ESA.

You are 100% correct Cookie. You get brand new shocks which we fit your original servos to.
Hope this helps
Pete
