Been looking for a pictorial thread on removing then rear drive seal to check the bearing for damage. Done several search but no luck.
Any one point me in the right direction, link.:thumb
Thanks

final drive

its a complicated bit of the bike and needs special tools to deal with.

I took mine off and sent it to Mike Overy, [email protected]. He did a superb job of rebuilding it with all new bits, came back in under a week and popped it back on myself.

If you do it the long pivot bolt is near impossible to undoe so I cut mine off a nd replaced it.

Are you checking because you have a problem, or just taking a cautious look?

Is it the outer lip seal or the input pinion seal?

If you search for threads posted by PatZX12, or easier still, check the stickies/useful links and how-to guides at the top of the 1200 technical section for his final drive thread you should find the info you require.

Its not the full drive just the usual oil seal mist/leak from the drive on the opposite side to where the wheel fixes. Simple job but noticed a pictorial of what to look for on the bearing cage once the seal is removed. Going to change the seal this weekend but would have liked to reread the thread.
Will look on the ADVrider site may have been on their.

Check what Patzx12 has to say and you might prefer to have the drive rebuilt with a full set of new bearings. Not peanuts but considerably less than a new one.

Mine has developed some vibration and a slight sideways play at the wheel rim so it's going very soon to Mikeyboy.
