Thanks for that - but I've already resigned myself to the full factory price experience as I need the bike for commuting, plus I've been told the crown gear isn't available as a separate part? It certainly doesn't appear on the parts fiche I've seen online. Anyway, I'm not sure I'd be 100% happy with a 'reconditioned' one in there - although the original BMW one hasn't exactly been great!

I've asked for all the old parts so may still have the option of a reconditioned unit to sell on, or use as a spare when the new one fails in 5 years time......

Mikey does so many rebuilds he may well have suitable spare parts. It may not be as simple as I'm hinting, but surely worth a phone call.

Seriously mate, before you agree to the full BMW "experience", contact Mikeyboy. His rebuilds are spot on, better than the dealer and much less cost. Contact him and you'll be surprised and you may still be able to go to the Manx. I'll buy you a beer if you make it there.

Agreed, had mine done by Mikeboy last month.

Mikey did mine. It's now far smoother than it ever was even 20,000 miles ago.
That loose bearing is a problem but he will have seen if all and quite likely knows a lot more than any BMW technician who hardly ever looks inside an FD case never mind rebuilds it.

after nagging my local dealer to squeeze me in for the flange recall before I take my 3 week trip round Spain and Portugal this Sept...just been told that my rear drive(vague)was knackered that'll be just shy of a grand for the drive and 4 to 5 hours to fit at £89 per hour....fair took my breath away....bike is 09 GS/A with 22850 miles on it serviced at 6k and 12k by supplying dealer and 18k by Jonno at the adventure bike warehouse , was told by someone in the know that my dealer hates stripping the drive so will just try and flog you a whole new unit.....any suggestion's where I go to get this remedied at a more sensible price?

If you want to get it repaired before you go you need to act fairly quickly,
It's is a busy time of year and one back ordered part could put your travel plans on hold,

I am away 29 th August for a fortnight ,
At the moment I can turnaround in 3 to 10 days depending on parts,dealers hours and luck
The cost for the rebuild is currently £370 inc return post
