Rear flap & side panels DIY instructions

I've read the PDF, and I think Colin has done a great job of putting it together. If you are, like me, tired of walking around with one brown leg/boot, then read the PDF.

I just wish I'd know of some good reliable material to use.

Once again, Thanks Colin!

Go to your local hardware store. Most sell rubber grip material by the metre. It is used for stairs and other slippery areas. I paid £15 for a square metre and did a similar job to Colin's. Mine needs a little refinement because my boot-heel still gets dirty, but otherwise it works well enough so I'll probably only fiddle with it when I'm really bored - which won't be any time soon...

This is how to make and fit a rear flap to protect the battery and back of the engine area, and side panels for uner the seat to prevent road spray reaching the rider.

Very nice, Colin. I too had a Motorrad Concepts hugger on order.

Any chance you would be willing to send me the text and photos so I could put your clever 'how to' on my http://www.R1200GS.info/ Website? With full credit to you, of course?

Yes no problem. I can't seem to find an email address for you on here so just drop me a line (my email address is shown on the pdf file) and I'll send it on.

Any chance you can make it out of carbon-fibre and fix it to the bike with a nice alloy strut possibly by attaching it to the rear brake caliper bolts?

My attempt :)

Inspired by those gods of DIY modification - Colin O and Mouse - and armed with a cheap set of rubber car mats, cable ties, a pair of scissors and a Blue Peter annual (in case of technical query re the scissors), I set to work...

..... there will be a few more doing that before the winter's out.

I think BMW have made a serious omission, it's like they forgot something.

Went out on my Duke today, came back nice and clean, despite the crap on the roads!

Nice one Clive :D I've recently done a similar experiment (with rubber car mats) but so far I've just made a left hand side flap. My left boot only gets dirty at the bottom now!
