Rear Foglight on a gsa

The BMW lights are called "auxiliary headlights". They have a dipped beam pattern so don't dazzle.

TBH proper fog lights fitted at low level should have a fan shaped beam to avoid the light bounce-back from thick fog. short range flat beams should dazzle anyone. Cheap aftermarket lights with crap reflectors or cone shape beams do dazzle and are useless in fog.

The LED "spots" (actually floods) I bought for the GS were a dead loss. The 30 degree cone shaped beam dazzled everything when the lamps were level. They were usable only when tilted down so much they looked drunk. They filled with water and packed up. Cheap isn't always tat, but these certainly were.

They would make handy interior lights for tent or caravan but not much else.

...... I'm breaking the law having my front fogs on on the gs all the time, or are they just spot lamps,

If they are fogs - low flat wide beam and below a specified height - then yes, you are breaking the law.

If they are spots - long narrow pencil--shaped beam - then they need to be wired up so they only come on with main beam.

If they are auxiliary lights (restricted wattage) then it is ok.

Don't worry about being nicked though, as you have more chance of being struck by lightning as plod doesn't believe that there is anything wrong with dazzling other drivers. :-)

Depending on the road I'm driving on, if someone in a car coming towards me has their fog lights on I put my main beam on. Fuck um! As far as I'm concerned, if they think it's OK to dazzle me, I'm happy to recripricate.

Me too. And the GS on full beam puts out at least 2x the light of my car with its ordinary halogens.

My 105E Anglia has one spot and one fog; I think that became illegal (had to be a pair) around 1969. My old mk2 Granada Ghia X, when you went onto main beam it switched off fogs and vice versa.

Since I went down the Hid route, for some reason I no longer have an issue with cars not dipping. Main beam is still shit though.

As I have a touratech mud catcher on the gsa, I reckon that a long/wide led strip will fit underneath number plate. This should give a big enough distance from the brake light. If I use an additional bmw auxiliary light switch, it'll look fairly standard too.

I have HID-50 in dip and main. The only issue is that BMW did not give enough angular separation between beams. Angled to get good main beam will cause the dip to dazzle everyone within 2 miles. Set the dip correctly and main is just hitting short. I soiled the problem with the two long range LED spots. At 6000K they have the all enveloping light the HIDs offer but they are adjustable and instant on.

Closing speed of 150 feet per second and neither side can see.
What could possibly go wrong.

Dont really have a problem with cars front fogs as usually very low and beams pretty flat, if they dazzle then must be set wrong so a quick main beam flash is in order. Rear fogs on :censor: usually indicates a knobhead.. cant see a dash warning light so no chance of seeing a bike.

So it's OK for me not to be able to see where I'm going because of some thick arrogant twat who wants to dazzle everyone?

I like what the police are doing in China in relation to this. They make the ofending driver stare directly into bright headlights for 10 minutes!

I agree there are some ignorant twats about, but if they haven't dipped their lights after a flash, then blinding them too isn't going to help. Just saying. You have to consider your own skin first & foremost.

When I went to China, feckers very rarely turned their lights on at night.

As to what the Chinese police get up to? I'm sure they'll make space for you in Ping Dong province local nick, so you can enjoy their hospitality.

The Chinese issue was featured on the news recently. Don't know why it's worthy of being news here though.

..... if they haven't dipped their lights after a flash, then blinding them too isn't going to help.......

It's about revenge and punishment....... If you get the timing right there is neglible risk involved to yourself.

Doesn't the Bible say something about " Do unto others etc."

There you are you see - God doesn't like being blinded either....... :-)

A quick flash (or two) of HID-50 in main beam with long range LED backup is all that's needed. If they don't get the message thay are knobheads so absolutely no point in blinding them into taking you out as well.
