Have very kindly lent my 1150 GS to a good friend for trip to france this week.

On arrival at Portsmouth (from Derby ) he has called me to say the indicator has melted and the lense had gone.

I did think the exhaust ( standard ) pointed at the indicator but thought with them both being standard parts , this wouldn't happen.

Is this a common problem ?
What can i do to stop it happening again ?

Suppose i'd better order an indicator

steve

Depends what panniers you have fitted -

Most Ali boxes funnel the heat onto the indicators

No panniers fitted , it looks like this .

well it did .

If you're running without a cat, the exhaust gases are hotter as well.

Looking at you photos,it looks like your "aftermarket" collector has slightly angled the muffler upwards. On a bone stock 1150GS the muffler angles the gasses under the indicator.
Google image R1150GS and have alook.

You`ll need an angled outlet spout on a can mounted at that angle....or you`ll have to reposition the indicators somehow.

When I first fitted the CCM exhaust can on my now sold LegoBike it did exactly the same thing,so I fabricated the aforementioned spout and all was well :thumb

Guess your mate is whipping the sh1t out of your bike!.
Never forget......A friend in need is a bloody nuisance.:D

Happened to mine, despite having the gas deflector thingy from Remus.

I can only assume it was because I'd been getting some spectacular exhaust pops on the over-run and some flame had killed the fitting.

But at least it was cheap to replace, unlike most Jap bikes.

I think you could be right, just pushing the "y" piece further on the down pipes could change the angle of the silencer.

thanks steve
