Hi,

Got some touratech frames and ali panniers and as they do, the right hand indicator is too long to allow the panniers to fit on the frames.

I did a search and followed this thread (http://ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237217)

Now I'm stuck, I've taken off the bulb housing and pushed the wires back through the rubber stem. But now I'm stuck :blast. The stem seems stuck, I've tried unscrewing it, (it turns, but loosely not like it's running on threads) pulling it, trying to remove the rubber first, but it doesnt seem to want to move.

I've also tried to get some sort of spanner or socket on the nut that the wires go in to behind the number plate, but theres not enough clearance to get too it? It's too tight to undo with my hands.

Now what the fuck am I doing wrong? :tears

Any help apperciated.

Thanks in advance. :thumb2

You wont get the rubber bit off the metal tube. Buy short indicator stems from nippy normans ( I think) . These fit nicely.
As for the nut. Very difficult sometimes. You will just have to persevere. They are a complete bastard to get off most times.

I've seen the short stems on metal mule / nippy, thank you. Will get these ordered /machine some my self.

So it's just a case of trying to get the nut off at the end of the stem and then it should all come apart? I guess I'll go have another try. Thanks. :thumb2

(Any tips for the nut other than getting it dowsed in some sort of wd40 or something?)

Vern fitted my panniers and I was ever so glad that he did as the indicator arms were a complete b.....d to remove.

Once the guts are out of the indicator you can carefully pull the wires out through the hollow stem. Then you can get a ring spanner on the nuts. I seem to remember that a Mole Grip like device was needed to clamp the stem through the rubber.

Overnight pre-treatment wit a penetrating fluid may help. Vern didn't have that little luxury though as I was fidgeting, ready for the return journey home:D

The right hand side is done now - had about an hour of a mix of chemicals to loosen it - ended up using Needle nose pliers to get it moving. Complete PITA!

It's now hanging there, waiting for some support and I need to decide weather to spend £20 from metal mule (For some tiny machined parts?) or get someone to make me some. :augie

Not looking forward to the left side. :bounce1

If you want to save a fiver, I have the MM bits you need, brand new in the bag, £15 inc post?:D
