Rear light using LED's

I'm not an innovator or vendor which is why this isn't in that section

I am thinking of changing the rear candle for a new tech LED one, and know someone who makes them for the 1150. If there's the market for them then they'd be about £40.

Don't bother pm'ing me for more info, all I'm doing is asking the question, is there any other airhead owners who'd be interested as well? If so probably best to post a +1 on this thread.

What are the retailers asking for their version?

Also: How many on here are already using such a thing, and do they think it's a genuine improvement?

Invader here from the oily-head dept.

If this item is from Techno, then I bought one a couple of months back.

It's a good honest product. It is well made, too.
I asked him about viewing angles of LEDs used. Got v. sensible reply.
In a nut shell, normal running illumination is at least as good as normal
bulb and illumination and when braking, it is much brighter. Mission accomplished..

£10 more for what the maker considers is an inferior product. And the UK price is seriously below the same product in Germany.

I know there's a number of LED rear light users in the BM club, and there seems to be a number of happy customers for their 11xx rear light. Also, it has to be worth their while, otherwise the cost per unit wont be favourable to either side. Hence the "any interest" before any specifics / major effort / major expense.

Sounds like the research is well under way

You see so many LED products on the net which either don't do the job as well as the conventional bulb, are a product made for something else entirely or are vastly over priced and often poorly designed.

If you have found a company that offer top notch products that are properly researched and tested, and can persuade them to make them to fit the Airheads plus offer it at a decent price, I'm interested 'price dependent'.

Also; in my book LEDs are for two reasons.
Firstly,
Their energy saving nature. Particularly valuable on the Airheads.
Secondly,
The extra light emitted by the LED unit (assuming they are pointing in the right direction of course).

I would want my LED replacements to be effective, and energy efficient.

Things like indicators with built-in resistors so they are able to activate the OE flasher unit, because the manufacturer can't be bothered to supply a unit of the correct values. These are I think just bling, and of no particular advantage.

get water on a LED board and itl let u down more easily than a bulb, mine did this, but , i might add , this is a rare occurance if the lense is watertight

What I'm after too

I tried a replacement led bulb with loads of leds in it and found it very poor to see the brake light in bright daylight..
I then got some high intensity leds from ebay and made a couple of these up

They are very bright and have been working for a couple of years now no problem
They also cost less than a tenner each

I've seen those too, and haven't heard any good reports on them

Nice to see a LED set up that isn't at German / USA price levels and has loads of LEDs on it

Is vibration or over voltage / amps the biggest killer of the tail light?

Just had the 2nd normal filament go in 8 months
