Rear reflective stickers on panniers - legal?

Like I said in my previous post, the legislation needs to be interpreted correctly.

You're right :thumb2

Try it :blast

(as Rushy says, according to that list, direct from the 'official' website, they are illegal if they reflect white to the rear)

good one

Weve got 2000+ vehicles with red and white stripes on the rear,we aint been nicked yet...

I've got white writing all the way round my dark vans, we work for the police... never been asked about....:thumb2

not guilty till someone wants to moan off about it....:augie

The UK traffic plod would have a stroke if they came to Ireland. Are you guys serious ? They would stop you for having a reflective stripe on a pannier ? Ireland is definately a more relaxed place to live and be a biker.

the cops down here are way too busy, with doughnuts or biscuits and cups of tea to be bothered with a bit of reflective sticky tape....:augie

not exactly crime of the century is it....:D

having said that if they're low on the count for the month, I'm sure they'd stick your for it to get the bonus paid at the end of the month.:thumb2

could a moderator move this twaddle to the 1200 section where they are more used to this sort of discussion?

things will be different when I'm incharge.... all cyclist without lights 3 points £300 fine cars with shitty broken headlights 6 points, producer and £500 fine no appeal.

foreign lorry drivers mandatory speed limit 30Mph and if they have an accident over here it's 1 strike and your out plus your lorry in impounded. Cars registered in bing bong countries and driven over here must have an MOT every three months.... £200 a go or face a Fine and being thrown out....

people driving on bing bong driving licenses who show little in the way of driving skills..... get thrown out

job done...

Nobody has, to my knowledge anyway, been 'done' for anything....it was a query about the legality....don't go getting all uppity and saying that means anything more than just a meaningless bit of BS here :blast

You forgot to take your meds this morning. "Uppity" ? ? Stop being a cnut.

I recently left my panniers into a local Graphics/Signmaker firm to have 3M Reflective tape installed on my same. Opted for reflective red myself as my understanding is that reflective wise, the only legal reflective colour allowed at the rear is red. I could have bought a pre-cut kit off e-bay in reflective white and while yes, the chances of being pulled over it might be slim, I prefer to keep myself right. Looking at the RAC van posted on page 2 of this thread, I don't think the white at the rear is reflective and thus is ok.

Just my two pence worth.

You got my vote! :bounce1

Wow!! Once again, thanks for the input!

Following all the information and opinion, my 'opinion' is that white reflective at the back is not a good idea, whether it is legal or not. It's just basically counter-intuitive to have large areas of white light shining at you as you approach the rear of a vehicle.

So, thanks guys, and I'm on the lookout for red reflective stuff to replace the white.
I suppose it should be easier to find at night........

The two-wheel humvees site adds a further dimension with its take on 'chevron' type stickers. Why is sticky-back plastic so expensive, though?
Ans=it's meant to go on a BMW.

Do I have to remove the Smartie tube tops from the spokes of my GSA wheels...........I have all different colours front and back.

I very much doubt that the average copper would be any better at interpreting the regulations. In the overall spectrum of crime any offence of this nature must be right up there with "walking on the cracks in the pavement", or "looking shifty".

Leave em on, I say (whatever floats your boat - I prefer the stealth look and I'm still here....)

oh well had better tell nearly all the trucks and tankers to remove the white reflectors off the back then or they " might " get nicked....

FFS what a bunch of mindless followers.
