I've a drip...

I took the torque arm off to touch it up with silver paint, 24 hours later I noticed the bevel box has dropped a bit with the front dropping which has led to a few drops of oils appearing - anything to be concerned about?

Just wondered if the bevel seal has gone or just caused by the bevel box being at an angle allowing the oils to drip?

TIA :)

I'd guess the input seal to the final drive is starting to weep and there was a few drops of oil already lying inside the boot. When it moved through a bigger angle than usual, the oil dripped out.

If I guess right and it is the input seal, then it will get steadily worse and you will notice a mist of oil around the bottom edge of the boot, or getting blown back over the outside of the final drive. I don't think it will suddenly let go and leave you stranded.

I've had the bevel box input seal weep a bit of oil (staining around the rubber boot where some of it escaped) then stop doing so and be fine for many years; I don't think I'm the only one. I wouldn't worry.

Same here. Had some drips ( half a table spoon ) then stopped, and all gooooood :)

Get some of the correct oil and crush washers for the drain and fill plug. Drain the old oil and see if it's clean or a dirty grey colour. If it's clean refill and just use it. Otherwise Scriminger Engineering is your friend.

So you have an Orinoco flow, has this thread made Enya difference?:D

Personally I wouldn't be concerned about a few drops.

You might won't to establish where it is comming from, either the final drive bearing ( more likely ) or the gearbox output spline bearing.

Unfastening the gaiter and looking inside will tell you which one is leaking by the oil trail.

If your deft of hand you can even remove and refit the gaiter tywraps. I use a small instrument screwdriver to lift the locking tab to release the strap. Refitting is a bit fiddely but it is possible. The worse case is you need a new strap for the big diameter. Using the old longer strap for the small diameter.

The 1100 has stainless straps that can easily be removed and reused. Much more likely to the FD front seal leaking than the rear gearbox one, though easy enough to check.

Just don't let the 'oil fade' away should there be lots of it. I'll just grab my coat on the way out the door.
