On my 1150gs (2002), the adjusting knob for the rear spring preload seems to have no resistance until just after the red ("standard") dot is reached. Anything softer than that and the knob doesn't really seem to do anything. I mentioned it to the mechanic (sorry, "technician") at the recent 6000 mile service and he compared it to a nearby GS and said it was the same, therefore probably normal. How does anyone else's knob feel? (If you don't mind me asking.)
