Hi had my gs since March had a new front tyre when I got it,now I need a rear is it best to stick with the same make as the front, I don't really do off road So any advice would be good.boo
Mix them and use it as a excuse if you fall off!
I mix and match road/off road. Ride according to grip and conditions simple.
Will the insurance company find this an excuse not to pay out?
its not illegal is it? does it say in the policy wording tyre brands/type must match
a road legal tyre is about the scope of legislation isn't it?Yes!
Some peepes will come along and say ... Nah, it doesn't matter, but the best advice is, stick to same make tyres (and really, same tyre model too).
Same make / model will mean that the profiles will match so your handling will be as it should be. You will also have two tyres whose rubber compounds also match.
Replace the rear with the same and when the front is shagged buy a pair of what ever takes yer fancy ....

However. I have been mixing tyres on my bikes for over 30 years without any problems. And i'm currently running a Metz Tourance on the rear, with Bridgestone Battlewing on the front of my 1200GSA.

Unless your name is Fogarty, Haga or Sheene, it's very unlikely you'll notice any difference when mixing tyres*. I have often mixed tyres on bikes. I also use matched pairs.

*Unless you mix road and knobbly tyres
On a ZZR......Respect![]()

We all know the shite reputation that Trailwings had in the wet. So suppose some numpty put say a Pilot road 3 on his back and a death wing on the front??
Recipe for disaster? Yep![]()

Put the stickiest tyre on the front if you're going to mix them is the common advice. But why not just put a matching tyre on anyway?
