06 gs 26000 miles. I had a Rear wheel bearing fitted under warranty 6 months ago at 19 000 miles , my bike is now out of standard warranty but I have BMW extended with £100 excess. The bearing is now seeping grease again, have I got a case that the one that BMW fitted has lasted such a short time and should be replaced FOC???

It is my understanding that all BMW dealer fitted parts and labor are guaranteed for a period of 2 years regardless of the warranty on your bike, therefore your final drive should still be covered :):) and should be rectified without cost to yourself if you have documentary evidence of the previous work undertaken.

If its the seal on the right side of the final drive it costs £9.81 and takes three minutes to fit although the official time for the job is much longer. Chase your dealer in case its either another bearing failure (which will trash the seal) or the axle is worn where the seal rubs (which I suspect is why new seals don't keep my oil in place). BMW warranties do not restart if things are changed so the warranty on my replacement battery was three weeks because the original died at 101 weeks (not quite two years).

You see I've never heard of this. Two years warranty parts & labour on items fitted by the dealer? :nenau

Normally you would only get the remainder of the manufacturers warranty on any item that was replaced within the manufacturers warranty period provided that you didn't make a contribution towards the repair. In other words if you had a part replaced on month 23 of a 24 month warranty then the replaced part would only have a 1 month warranty. If you paid for or made a contribution towards the repair then whatever the manufacturers standard policy is would apply. In most cases I have come across that is 12 months from date of repair. If BMW give you 24 months then that's all fine and dandy but that not the normal case :augie

If an item fails outside of the warranty period and you don't have an extended warranty policy then you could request that your dealer asks BMW for a 'goodwill claim' but be aware. One of the first questions that the manufacturer will want to know is if you have taken out an extended policy and if you have it has been in my experiance that the manufacturer will not make a contribution to the repair. An agent from the worlds leading 4x4 manufacturer once said to me "mechanical failures outside of the manufacturers warranty period are what you buy an extended warranty policy for"

At the end of the day you could have bought the policy with a 'zero excess' charge

Best of luck

I'd say that your dealer should be making a claim on the policy on your behalf for any remedial work necessary.

Best chat to your dealer (politely) and see what they advise about a claim under the extended warranty, considering the previous repair only lasted 6 months. I dare say they will be happy to claim if you have cover for the repairs needed.

I hope you have the £100 excess required?
