Hello

I’m planning to dismantle and clean and rebuilt the carbs in my r1000gs.

I already bought the rebuilt kit and next step is to start the work!

Do I need any special tool to adjust them or can I use only the “normal” garage tools?

Thanks

To dismantle and rebuild n0 special tools are required.Unless the top screws on the needle juts are siezed.

To set the idle mixture a Gunsons Colortune plug works well .

To balance them any carb balancer will work - I find the Twinmax quick and easy to use, or you can make a simple U tube - try a google on $5.00 carb balancer for instructions.

Rebuilding carbs

Hi Bernard,
You can almost get away with a small flat screwdriver and a couple of small spanners.
My only advice would be to make sure you set up the float heights correctly, i.e. make sure the tang on the floats is just touching pin of float valve when floats are parallel to float chamber.
Carbs are straight forward except when they leak:)

Good luck, great bike by the way.

Thanks

So what you are saying is that I can rebuild the carbs with out any special toll but I can’t tune them up right…..

Is that it? :(

carb rebuild and tune

It is possible to worry too much, I know, that's the way I am:(
I think your mixture screws should be half a turn from fully closed; don't tighten it too much!!!
If you get stuck with balancing, I can always photostat the page from Clymer and email it to you.

Ok

So what carb balancer should I buy or made? I’m a bit “low on money” so I don’t want to spend what I don’t have!  Any home made solution will the best

Thanks
