Hi all
New to BMW,s GSA 2007 , Bought with recall to do, so booked in on Monday. Get phone call that my fuel pump module(sits on top left hand side) "sir we have done a health check and noticed that pump module has slight rusting at edge, this could cause problem if not changed as it has been sat in water" me being naive and not having any knowledge of what they were talking about as such agreed to have done as bike already having recall and less labour charged to fix as they are doing fuel flange and back arm for steel plate.
Get bike back, leave, first car behind check that all lights on. No main beam, turn round go back in explain, few words exchanged so that they understood that everything was fine when they had it. Left 3 miles down road fuel gauge blinks 57 miles left, then counted down to empty every 2 sec. Thinking possible fuel leak considering what done, no leak filled tank to full, still empty. Get home ring them now Wed night lost 1.5 days on this already. They agree to pick up in van after explaining again that they have played with it. Take a closer look at fuel pump module, guess what? They cleaned bike and there it is happy sat in its own little pool of water.
According to them, I now need to replace it under their first statement, it might fail, a known fact. Whilst trying to video it for proof, I then relised the amount of trouble I was having to see it. How the hell did they see the problem when they had no need to touch it in first place, and the so called rust corrosion is impossible to see unless you take it off!
Has anyone else done recall and had this pointed out to them?

Another thing with bike is the ABS is not working, I had this checked and they checked to confirm that no power was getting to pump. This according to them (appreciated) may be caused by the adding from previous owner of rear LED LIGHT FITTING, canbus show LAMPR! Fail on dash. This can cause electric test to stop to ABS SYSTEM hence will not activate. On print out diagnostic, the fault of ABS and rear activated at exact same mileage.(proof!).

This is giving me a bad taste about BMW I have little faith in their quality after reading this site, wish I new before.

Great ride report !
How far did you get and where are the pictures

On a serious note take it some where else for a second opinion on the ABS issue and then have a serious conversation with BMW about them doing work that didn't need doing or speak to the tech for a decent and proper explanation

Amendment

I have since done some more homework!

Apparently you have to remove the pump module to access the recall problem.
If it is damaged( apparently there was a small split or something in the seal, would that not be caused due to removal) who should be charged. If not removed might have lasted till end of bike life. I just realised that the person I bought bike off had already had another fitted due to burn out on plug end. He left it in one of the boxes that had all other bits xtras it.

They may have caused the problem of the fuel calibration strip due to recall.

Appreciate any input and thoughts on this, I will be contacting BMW main office to ask their view.

Fantastic pics and looks like you had good weather. :thumb2

The Alps are stunning at this time of year. :D

If you haven't got the hint by now.....copy this over to the 1200 Hexhead section and you'll get some better responses.
