Have just been advised by my local dealer that there is a recall on my bike (an '03 1150gs) due to the fact that they have to "move the Lambda sensor wire away from the spark plugs/HTs due to possible interference" (I assume electrical type interference) - Has anyone else come across/suffered from this 'interference' problem and how might/would it manifest itself?

Mod

Yep had mine done in 03 after bike kept suddenly loosing power for no reason. Bike would then just idle but not rev. Switch off and restart bike would be ok. Had my heart pumping a couple of times. 20000 later still ok :thumb

Bloody hell! Who's your dealer - mine was done 2 years ago as, I suspect, were a lot of others

Change dealers - good job it wasn't a brake failure recall

Sherpa ;)

Guys, much obliged for your thoughts.

I have experienced sporadic and unexplained power loss on occasion when accelerating (almost like fuel starvation/flat spot feels like) which has made for some interesting overtaking experineces!
Not resolved at last service, so this could solve the problem :bounce1

Bought the bike privately last April so didn't check for mods/recall being carried out - you live n learn

Couldn't agree more Sherpa, my 03 Adv was done over a 2 years ago as was the rear brake sleave on the brake pipe.

Scary that you just got that now......did you get the rear brake cover taken care of, and the quick realease fuel pipe problem too? I would check when your bike is in for the lamb work!!

HTH and good luck.....(who's the dealer?)

Nick

Recall work was done but...

Thanks for your comment Sprout, I have an 03 with the recall work having been done before I got the bike, I was just about to pose a Q on this forum regarding flat spots (albeit very brief) when selecting gear and shouting 'CHAAArge.......' when overtaking.

I think it may be related so I'll get it checked again unless anyone can offer an alternative reason for a very brief falter during the teeth clenching the bit part of riding. I have no evidence of skids but a strange smell eminates from the seat when this happens...

My bike is an '03 too. How do I check if this has been done. Could someone post a pic?

ask!

Any BM dealer should be able to tell whats been done / not done through a reg. number, vin number check.

Sherpa ;)

bg - I asked for a check on 'recall / modification' notices when I put it in for a service at SPC. The very nice man there even printed out details for work done (at another garage) for my bike. :thumb

It is quite easy to check, On the right side of the engine, just behing the cylinder head, the Lambda sensor wire and second spark plug wire used to run next to each other up towards the frame. (Held by a metal clip)

The recall is to move the Lambda sensor wire away from the spark plug wire as the High Voltage in the spark plug wire may cause interference with the Lambda sensor signals.

If the wires still run next to each other, the recall has not been done on the bike.

This only applies to Twin Spark Models.

Thanx for the information guys. I bought mine 1150 GSA 2003 last November and suffered from the same problem when accelerating.
When reading this thread i went to the shed and saw that the 2 wires were close to eachother.
One phonecall to the nearest BMW dealer, and i found out that the modification was not done yet. They said "come and have a cup of coffee, and everything will be arranged" Now that is what i call service :thumb

Gr, Aad.

Thanks for the response AJCvB. I have today done 150 plus (full on) miles which is first proper test since getting the Lambda work done etc.

Have had no problems at all, should also point out that I have also fitted a K&N filter and the bike has never run so sweet  Reckon she just wanted to breath easier.......

so..........a combination of Lambda and K&N seem to have done the trick :clap

I will post again if I get any more problems
