I received a recall notice from BMW UK this morning. I phoned the last dealer to have worked on the bike (Cannons) to arrange for whatever needed doing be done. They seemed to think it was the front ABS sensor cable re-routing and replacing a banjo joint, which their computer said has already been done on my bike.

Does anyone know whether there is any other recall work that should have been done?

Thanks in advance,

Robin.

Received the same letter this morning -

" Quality monitoring at BMW has revealed that there maybe a defect with your motorcycle which could have an affect on its safety in operation".

Rainbow had already informed me last week and said its only 30 mins work........its booked for this afternoon so I'll see

I got the same letter this morning too. It's vagueness did worry me a lot. Phoned my dealer (Cannons) and they didn't know much about it. Anyway, bikes booked in for service next wednesday anyway. Hopefully they will carry out any top secret mods that need to be done.

This is not a new recall......it appears that dealers have been carrying this mod out for sometime. Suspect the recall letter was issued because my bike is just 12 months old and due an inspection/service.

New banjo bolt (Under front brake cylinder)
Re-routing of ABS sensor cable (New clip attached to the side of fork leg)

Sorted

PS - Brakes appear slightly sharper......but that could be in mi head

same letter received today but relates to the 04 bike with abs that part ex'd a month ago. nothin received on the new one (non abs)

Hmmm

I got one today as well...

03 R1150 GS non-abs....

Anyone spot a pattern? :nenau

My recall arrived today Nov 94 build ABS

Bike only collected from service yesterday... so I'll be phoning the dealer tomorrow :nenau
:D

Recall?

I have an 02 1150,Im wondering if it needs a recall too.
Can I contact BMW online somehow to see if it needs a recall does anyone know?

I'm pretty sure this is some scam BMW are pulling to increase footfall in to their dealerships in the quieter months.

While we are waiting around aimlessly for 30 mins we browse the clothing and used/new bike stock - which suprise surprise they are doing 'special' deals on.

I had the ABS re-routing done some time ago and still received the letter for the GS despite seling it (to my wife) two weeks ago.

I'm sure they pulled the same trick last year with the 'Free ABS Health Check"
Went in for a 30 minute wait, just for print-out to say everything is fine...oh and by the way 'we recommend changing your rear brake disc' - I seem to remember buying some winter gloves at the same time? :spitfire

Call me cynical but.....it seems weird that nearly everone one here regardless of bike model seems to be getting the same vague letter just before Christmas.

That's electrically operated servo abs brakes for you ;-)

I got two identical letters yesterday (54 GS). Booked in with Cannon - the earliest date they can do is 13th December. Lots of other things need to be done as well as the previous owner(s) did not bother with the recalls plus the 12,000 service.
Looks like an expensive exercise

Recall is to place clips on front wheel ABS sensor cable so as to make sure that no numpty routes it in the wrong place when changing the front wheel. There is a very important thread sticky on this by TheJoker

There is a very tangible safety benefit in having that job done.. even if it is a cynical ploy to get everyone into the dealerships :nenau

BTW Chasmill, so that you know what to expect : 12000ml service inc two new rear brake pads, change ABS brake fluid plus gearbox oil (cos I have just had seals replaced under warranty) £352.78 inc vat
:D

Work colleague of the wife has got a 650CS (5 Years old)......also received a recall notice related to possible tank/fuel problem.

Aint for abs sensor routing as bikes without abs are being recalled too.
