BMW R1200GS, RT, ST Motorcycles
Date: 04/04/2005

Supplier: BMW Group Australia

Category: Motor Vehicles

Product Info: Retrofitting cover for throttle-cable pulley.

Defect details: During product monitoring on R1200GS, R1200RT and R1200ST motorcycles, it has been determined that there is the possibility of small objects such as a pebble for example, or the cover of the A-arm pivot if it were to work loose becoming lodged between the throttle valve stub and the engine block. A foreign object lodged in this position could block the movement of the throttle cable pulley.

Consumer action: Contact BMW Group Australia on 1800 813 299

Make: BMW

Model: R1200GS, RT, ST

Model Years From: 29/03/2004 to 23/03/2005

Consequences: Within the framework of quality monitoring, BMW Motorrad has ascertained that there is a possibility of small objects such as a pebble, for example, or the cover of the A-arm pivot, if it were to work loose, becoming lodged between the throttle-valve stub and the engine block. A foreign object lodged in this position could block the movement of the throttle-cable pulley, and this in turn could result in a critical situation on the road.

Yowser... this exact thing happened to me. Thought the throttle cable was fraying or something. Found the "cover of the A-arm pivot" wedged nicely under the "throttle valve stub". It's obviously not just the 1200 as mine's an 02 Adventure.

Mine was in the shop on Monday and had this done.
