Hey All,

Mines in at the moment getting driveshaft recall completed. Shes at 62k km plus at the moment so past the mark for recall.

Anyone else had it done recently? Anything to watch out for when returned. I've a long trip coming up Friday. So thinking about bedding in time perhaps or what not.

Is it just the gs? I’ve got a r. JJH
Actually not sure. I bought mine direct from munich 2nd hand from main motorrad dealer in munich. I was the second owner and I got a recall lettee in german to my home address in Ireland. About 2 years ago advising of the mileage limits for the recall.

Recall being done motorrad in Dublin.

I'm pretty sure it covers all the water cooled Boxers they just started with the GS

NOG had my RT in for 3 days for the footrest circlips & drive shaft boot recall

They didn't replace the shaft. The delay was in getting my bike to communicate with the mothership fr the gearbox tune download

Mine had its first shaft replacement job under warranty due to it being rusted solid onto the FD, plus the rubber drain grommet fitted.

On 20k now and I home service it, just done it’s annnual again with genuine parts, including a drive shaft spline relube with Moly 60 paste. I noted no Staburags white grease had been used by the dealer previously.

I hope I get a recall letter or notification whenever it’s due again, is it time based, mileage based or both ?

Its mileage based, ideally over 36k miles.
Contact your dealership to request the change, which is FOC for 1200/1250 owners. Pity those poor 1300 owners who will have to pay for a new shaft, every 36k - its in their maintenace schedule as a consumable.

How much? JJH

had the carden shaft replaced by bmw recently. It took the tech longer than expected due to the new shaft being somewhat different in size in some places and getting the spline to marry up at gearbox end was a challenge! rear rubber boot replaced FOC
have only done a few miles since but its seems fine. No instructions to run in etc given

nothing to watch out for

I went to Spain straight after my 36k service including new shaft drive in 2024 on the R1200RS

Me too. Had the shaft done earlier this year (38k miles). My last couple of services were done by an Indie, so I was wondering if that may cause a question 🤔 or two, but no worries at all. Great service by Motorrad Dundee, even got a R1300R as a courtesy bike. Shaft change FOC and straight off to Romania! No problem 👍

Picked her up driving perfect. Happy days.

This particular dealer does pretty much all the traffic police bikes in Dublin so we'll used to the level of work.

Thanks guys ! Didn't know they're treating these as consumables on the new model. That's incredible.

1300 is 48.000 miles or 80km …… but yep they have to pay for the new one and it’s expensive. Strangely though the 1200lc and 1250 shaft seems very cheap now if you did need to buy one. So €130 for 1250 and €900 for 1300. Amazing what a recall does to lower the price on a part.

So for clarity sake...

Is the recall included then at 60K miles / 120K Km. or do they close it off at 1 cardan replacement ?

Its worth buying one above if not included as thats great value. But if included it would be pointless.

Do i plan on having the bike at that mileage. Of course!! its a dream to drive. beautiful machine. :D

for all of the 1200/1250 LC models, the shaft is a free replacement at 60,000 km intervals (approx 37000 miles)

the service schedule was changed to recommend a regrease of the splines at 12,000 mile intervals. Note, a recommendation not mandatory to get the next replacement

As far as I’m aware it’s free replacement forever, every 36.000 miles and if you’re a high mileage hero you keep getting a new one every time you reach that millage again, so no excuse not to knock out the big miles, well except that petrol is now worth more than gold 🤣
